Extra from Volume 8#3 by Madelyn W.

Many Christian young ladies have the vision that they will someday get married and raise children. That desire must be carefully protected, nurtured, and prepared for. Marriage, though, must not be our ultimate goal. We need to have a purpose for our lives that is bigger than marriage. Our ultimate goal must be to serve our Heavenly Prince, Jesus! Whether we become married or not, we must be keepers at home who love the Lord, as the Proverbs 31 woman illustrates. “Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised” (Proverbs 31:30). We must strive to have these as our priorities: serving God, honoring our parents and being a blessing to our siblings.

serve god
Set aside a special time each day to delight in the Lord. Dive into His Word with prayerful meditation. Make your heart right with Him. Ask Him for His grace. Seek His face. He will meet you. Know that the first step to serving God is to serve in your own home. Your obedience to this will lead you to other opportunities in outside the home.

honor our parents
Your parents will be blessed when you honor them. Proverbs has a lot to say about honoring your father and mother. It is the first Commandment that has a promise, being: “that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.” (Exodus 20:12)

Seek to meet your father’s needs; look for ways to be a help-meet to him. There are many ways that a young lady can serve and honor her father. These include listening to what he has to say, respecting him, doing assignments the way he would want them done, and more.

A godly mother is the example that God has given you of the woman He wants you to be. There is so much that you can learn from her! When you learn from her with a soft and teachable heart, it is honoring to her. If you asked your mom if you could be her apprentice, what do you think she would say? I know that my mom would say yes. You and your mom could choose a household job, like laundry, baking or cooking, dishes, cleaning, and vegetable and/or herb gardening, and over a period of time, your mom could teach you step by step the in’s and out’s of that particular job. It will take time, but eventually you will master that job, and be able to do it on your own. This will not only be a big blessing to your mother, but you will also be girding yourself with a skill that you will need in the future, and be a blessing to your family now.

bless our siblings
Here are some goals that can help our family in the effort of harmony in the home:

- Speak words of encouragement, not criticism
- Ask forgiveness when you do something wrong
- Be patient and slow to anger
- Spend time with them and do things they enjoy
- Respond nicely when they point out your faults
- Be humble in an argument

I pray that God gives you His grace as you strive to be a daughter of virtue!
